The core mechanics of the Jumping Shell game are simple: a tap or click will propel the shell into the air. The higher the player holds their finger or mouse button, the stronger the jump, allowing for height and distance. Use ADW or the directional keys to help the character move left and right or jump up. The Shell can also be jumped twice when the player presses it twice in a row to reach higher platforms.

In Jumping Shell, the player must align the shell on the landing pad safely by adjusting its position before each jump. The player must align the jump precisely to match the size of the Shell. If the Shell falls and cannot be jumped back up, the player must restart the level by pressing the R key. The Jumping Shell game features 30 progressive levels, each offering a unique combination of platform types and environmental challenges. The first levels introduce simple, static platforms with wide gaps. As the player progresses, the platforms become more complex, featuring special elements such as pop-up pads that elevate the shell or slippery surfaces that cause it to slide. Midway through the game, players face platforms that move side to side, up and down, or rotate, requiring sharp timing and strategic movement. Some levels include bonus areas where the shell must collect stars before escaping, while others introduce vertical tunnels with multiple obstacles. The final levels gradually increase in difficulty with narrow escape sequences and rapid platform changes that require the player to make split-second decisions.
